Enterprise Application Manager

What are we looking for?

The main purpose of the role is to provide day to day support, oversight and direction to the Enterprise Application delivery teams. This spans from the direct line management of a number of development squad members, through to the facilitation of agile ceremonies, liaison with internal stakeholders to manage expectations and providing guidance & education on the lifecycle of all solutions within the enterprise application landscape.

The role holder will be responsible for managing a multi-site, multi-discipline set of Application Delivery squads to deliver a varied programme of work in line with an agreed roadmap and business objectives.

In addition to the day to day management of the team, the role holder will be expected to have forward sight of upcoming challenges and opportunities, to ensure a consistent progression through agreed programmes of work. This will involve identifying & managing any training and development requirements within the team, liaison with internal stakeholders to ensure requirements are fully understood, external dependencies are managed, expectations are set and managed, and any necessary early investigation & discovery is completed ahead of time.

The role will drive improvement, consolidation and standardisation of the group’s varied estate of applications and solutions. Identifying, documenting and implementing standards, processes and governance to ensure that the pace of change is balanced with appropriate risk management and quality.

What will you be doing?

Working in collaboration with your teams, architects, Product Development and Product Management you will be fully involved in leading the design & implementation planning, documentation and support of scalable, reliable and highly available solutions using the appropriate tools including .NET, Microsoft Azure and our Partner Platforms that meet the needs of our clients and end-users.

  • Where required, act as agile coach in conjunction with the tech leads/senior developers to run daily stand-ups and other agile ceremonies
  • Work with Project Management, Product Ownership, the senior technical leads and the rest of the technology department in maintaining a viable set of backlogs that addresses technical debt, development and implementation of new applications and features
  • Support the development teams by working with other teams, departments and clients to remove any blockers
  • Drive collaboration between the development team and the rest of the business through facilitation of:
    • Cross functional stand-ups
    • Regular show and tells
    • Development breakout / design sessions
  • Work with the Head of Product Delivery to guide and build PDPs for team members to grow and enhance technical and delivery knowledge across the team
  • Maintain and improve the governance standards and procedures within the department, including timely, and accurate reporting of progress and success measures
  • Agree development standards and procedures with the Head of Product Delivery and implement within the department (coding standards, deployment processes, delivery squad approach, development processes etc.)
  • Co-ordinate activity within the department in response to external escalation requests for service incident and change implementation support
  • Alongside tech leads, senior developers, architects and Head of Product Delivery contribute to the on-going assessment of our technology stack and tools used for development to ensure latest technologies and tools are utilised
