Production Orchestration Development Manager

What are we looking for? 

The main purpose of the role is to optimise production efficiency via the identification, design and delivery of robust, scalable technology solutions and enhanced system integrations that improve the end-to-end orchestration of production workflows driving the automation of print output across multiple sites.

The role holder is responsible for delivering outcomes through a combination of direct reports, matrix management, and influencing stakeholders across the organisation.

The role will drive improvements to programme governance within the Production Orchestration domain, focus on technical debt remediation, the de-risking of high-risk components within the domains and delivering a strategic programme of improvement that creates an industry leading service to support multiple-site production. This will include, but not limited to, driving enterprise level change across both the technical domain as well as influencing and supporting adoption of harmonised working practices across each of the production sites.

The role will be the focal point for the modernisation of the production orchestration domain transitioning into leadership of a Production Orchestration Development function that will deliver an ongoing roadmap of functional change and product maintenance. The role will be instrumental in refining business process and governance to ensure that the pace of change is balanced with appropriate risk management and quality.

 

What will you be doing?

 Working in collaboration with your teams, architects and Production stakeholders you will be fully involved in leading the design & implementation planning, documentation and support of scalable, reliable and highly available solutions using the appropriate tools including .NET, Microsoft Azure and our Partner Platforms (Ricoh Process Director), that meet the evolving needs of our production facilities and clients.

  • Lead the development of production orchestration strategies to improve the efficiency and scalability of print production services
  • Co-ordinate the on-going assessment and documentation of the production systems landscape, identifying potential risks or inefficiencies in processes and systems
  • Propose tactical and strategic remediation plans based on identified risks or opportunities for improvement including the benefits cases to secure funding for these initiatives
  • Manage relationships with third-party technology providers, ensuring optimal performance and integration of external tools with in-house systems
  • Where required, act as agile coach in conjunction with the tech leads/senior developers to run daily stand-ups and other agile ceremonies
  • Work with Product Management, Product Ownership, the senior technical leads and the rest of the technology department in maintaining a viable set of backlogs that address both technical debt and development of new products and features
  • Support the development teams by working with other teams, departments and clients to remove any blockers
  • Drive collaboration between the development team and the rest of the business through facilitation of:
    • Cross functional stand-ups
    • Regular show and tells
    • Development breakout / design sessions
  • Work with the Head of Product Delivery to guide and build PDPs for team members to grow and enhance technical and delivery knowledge across the team
  • Maintain and improve the governance standards and procedures within the department, including timely, and accurate reporting of progress and success measures
  • Agree development standards and procedures with the Head of Product Delivery and implement within the department (coding standards, deployment processes, delivery squad approach, development processes etc.)
  • Co-ordinate activity within the department in response to external escalation requests for service incident and change implementation support
  • Alongside tech leads, senior developers, architects and Head of Product Delivery review the technology stack and tools used for development to ensure latest technologies and tools are utilised
